GSM & (E)GPRS Engineering and the evolution towards 3G
Description
Second generation mobile networks have revolutionised voice services, and with the introduction of 2.5 and 3G data services are revolutionising Internet access and data applications. This course provides a solid grounding in the key protocols, architecture and elements of GSM and GPRS networks, The programme explores the technology in a logical format, including the Radio Access Network, Core Network, and the required underlying systems. The protocols are examined in depth and signalling flows are used where necessary to illustrate the operation. at the end of the course we explore briefly the evolution to UMTS
Objectifs
- Create a diagram of the GSM System Architecture describing the role and operation of each element
- Describe the structure and features of the GSM Air Interface, explain the physical and logical channels and describe how logical channels are mapped to physical channels
- Follow and describe the basic GSM procedures, including handovers and location updates, mobility management, connection management and security functions
- List the GPRS protocols and their role in the system
- Describe the structure and main features of the GPRS radio interface and understand basic GPRS procedures
- Gain a thorough understanding of potential GPRS services
- Create a diagram of the UMTS System Architecture describing the role and operation of each element
Prérequis
This intensive technical training programme is designed for those looking to gain a thorough understanding of the infrastructure and operation of a GSM/GPRS network, you should have a basic understanding of telecommunications, although this is not essential
Instructeurs
Naime BENALOU
BENALOU Naime, A Senior Radio Planning and optimization engineer with more than 6 years of experience in the radio network domain.
He is a telecommunication engineer graduated from the National Telecommunications Institute of Oran on July 2009.
He joined just after a company of VSAT services as a Technical support engineer. He worked after in the IP domain (VOIP, videoconference…) and he was the responsible of the E-learning platforms implementation (using MOODLE, Mahara…).
In July 2010 he joined a mobile telecommunication company as a Radio engineer, with tasks related to both domains: Radio Planning & radio Optimization activities. Two Years after, he specialized in the Radio Optimization domain.
On June 2013 he was promoted to Senior Optimization Engineer. He is working essentially with 2G/3G/4G NSN technologies
